Breakfast Sandwiches -- Touche Touchet Does Croissants; Any Other Breakfast To Recommend?

Touche Touchet's sausage, egg and cheddar croissant
The Howard County dump makes for an invigorating Saturday morning, and a trip to the dump earns an automatic breakfast sandwich.

The county landfill off I-70 is really heaven-sent if you clean out your garage and end up with a car full of old paint, lumber scraps, rusted metal and such.  I got in and out in 20 minutes, even after stopped at the various stations to unload my various stuff.  Tossing metal off a one-story drop makes me feel like a hoodlum every time.

It also made me hungry, and I ended up at Touche Touchet just off Rte 29.  The bakery does most of its business on the sweet side with cakes, sugar cookies, and pastries.  But they make savory croissants, including one with a sausage patty and a small cheddar omelet wrapped inside the dough.

I could have enjoyed a spicier sausage.  I'm getting picky about bacon, sausage and similar stuff, figuring they might as well be spectacular if I'm going to splurge.  But the croissant was nicely made, and they have worked out a system that even a reheated croissant comes out warm and nicely crisp.  The egg and cheese made a real meal, and Touche Touchet is a nice place to linger with coffee and a little to eat.

Can anyone else suggest a cool breakfast spot?  I've highlighted the Mexican egg plates at R&R Taqueria.  That chorizo was worth the splurge.  I'd love any other suggestions because I don't eat breakfast out enough to have a repertoire to recommend.

Cafe Mezcla at the Hickory Ridge village center has breakfast crepes and waffles. Definitely more of an indulgent feel, but breakfast all the same!

Kolache Kreations always has good stuff, and not just Kolaches. Their Eclairs and Cinnamon Rolls could feed a family in a third world country for days.

Not sure where this place is that you've reviewed. Touchet - Touchet? Off rt 29? Near the dump? Can't be.

Sorry. It was on the way home from the dump. Touche Touchet is in Columbia on Shaker Drive. This is just north of Rte 32 and just east of Rte 29.

Touche Touchet (too-shay too-shet) is in a little town called Simpsonville, which is surrounded by Columbia. They even have a post office. It's sandwiched between Kings Contrivance and Allview estates.

I second Adam's shout out for Kolaches! I had both the sausage egg and cheese AND the bacon egg and cheese variety on a particularly hungry morning. I have heard that if you want to ensure your variety of choice is available, you can call and reserve some.

AhHa..I was waiting for a breakfast post! Does anyone know a place that makes homemade biscuits and white sausage gravy?

We usually go to Double-T for your basic eggs, meat, homefries, but I don't have much insight into their kitchen. Are they making homemade stuff or just reheating Sysco deliveries?

Go back to R&R for the breakfast chilaquiles. Great stuff.

Most Saturdays we debate between T&J waffles, Carlson's Donuts, and Chick-Fil-a (chicken egg and cheese biscuits). None of them are close to where I live, but all are worth a drive.

I've been enjoying brunch at White Oak Tavern in the Enchanted Forest Shopping Center on 40. Their menu is a little reduced during the summer vacation season, but it's still good and includes homemade biscuits. I tried the new Bean and Burgundy nearby on 40 once -- liked the basic pancakes, but I'll have to go back for a second visit. Clyde's and Xitomate have become favorite places for brunch. Last weekend, I had brunch for the first time at Rudy's Mediterranean Grill off Gateway Drive and found out it's very generous. (He has expanded the place, if you have not been recently.) Have not been for a while, but there's also Frank's Diner on US 1 (they have grits!). And, yes, I've also enjoyed the breakfast croissants at Touche Touchet!

Nope. Now that I make my own English Muffins, the breakfast sandwich my husband makes (we call it Egg McSteve) is too good. No one else measures up.

We like Hickory Ridge Grill for Sunday breakfast. Also, Bagel Bin has decent bagel sandwiches.
