Pizza And Ice Cream In Downtown Ellicott City; Top Of My To-Do List -- If I Can Work Around Nap

The folks who brought weekend outdoor pizza to downtown Ellicott City have re-opened the nearby ice cream shop to make a dangerous duo -- to your waistline.

River House Pizza is Nathan Sowers' mobile wood-fired oven that turns the courtyard near the Main Street parking lot into an outdoor pizza restaurant.  For several years, they have served one of the highlights of the monthly market.

Now, that monthly market has become the weekly Ellicott City Old Town Market -- every Saturday offering music, farmers stands and more.  Check out their Facebook page for hours and details.

At the same time, Sowers has expanded River House to Friday lunchtime (11:30-2) and all day Saturday and Sunday (11:30-7).   He has also re-opened the ScoopAHHdeedo ice cream shop that operated down the row for a few years, but I think was shuttered for the last one or two.  The scoop shop will be open Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 7 pm.

I've been remiss writing up the expansion.  I keep wanting to go.  We really loved the BrickNFire mobile pizza oven that operates across the river at the Breadery in Oella.  Now you can get pizza and the Taharka Brothers ice cream.

Saturdays Call You To Main Street; Mobile Pizza Co. Installing Kitchen, Taking Over Ice Cream

The new weekly market off Main Street should call you on Saturdays to walk through downtown Ellicott City.

For several years, there was a monthly market with food stalls, vegetables stands, and some vendors selling olives, pickles, jams and other items.

But the market has gone weekly now.  It's every Saturday in the parking lot behind Tersiguel's and in the parking lot next to the Wine Bin.  Last weekend, Katie discovered news and reported in her CupcakeRN blog -- including the fact that the folks behind River Hill Pizza Co. and its mobile ovens are taking over space on Tonge Row to install a kitchen.  They're also taking over the ScoopAHHdeedoo ice cream shop in the same row.

I have been out of commission for weeks with travel and illness. I'm trying to start up again, and I'll do a bunch of short posts about news that happened when I was home. Main Street in Ellicott City is one of the few real pedestrian dates that you can have in Howard County.

Walking is fun.  Walking with an ice cream cone is even better, and Scoop Ahh Dee Doo has opened a window on ice cream in the neighborhood.

Literally a window.  Scoop Ahh Dee Doo is an ice cream stand next to the Little French Market and just off the parking lot off Main Street.  They're importing Taharka Brothers Ice Cream.   That's the hippest ice cream company in Baltimore and a place with fans on Yelp.

Adam posted about Scoop Ahh Dee Doo in April.  He liked the ice cream itself, but he didn't like the bacon in the maple and bacon flavor.  I went simple with dark chocolate peppermint.  Really rich chocolate ice cream.  Peppermint flavor throughout the scoop -- not crunchy candy.  Two bucks for a scoop is actually a deal when the ice cream is that delicious.  It's worth even more on a hot day.

NEAR:  Scoop Ahh Dee Doo is on the Tongue Row collection of shops.  The buildings face Old Columbia Pike, but the shops are on the back side facing the parking lot off Main Street.  The shop is just to the right of the Little French Market.
