Link: River Hill Sports Grille On The New BBG

The River Hill Sports Grille in Columbia is the latest bar to really push a craft beer program, and the Baltimore Beer Guy wrote up River Hill's plan to expand to 30+ taps on his new Web site.

The BBG has shifted from Blogger onto a new site, but he remains the source for beer news -- like Victoria Gastro Pub's "tap takeover" on February 6 when Flying Dog will "program" all 24 of the Columbia restaurant's taps.

Ever since Alex (formerly @ Victoria Gastro Pub) took over the beer at River Hill, I've been intrigued to try. However, I haven't heard anything good about the food. Has anyone been? Is it just standard bar far and TVs like the only time I stopped a long time ago, or is it worth a trip?

Food is ok. Nothing amazing, but if you are looking for a good burger and a cold beer it is a nice place to go. Also, family friendly earlier in the evenings, they have always been accomidating with our kids. For those of you without kids, never fear, they tend to put all the families towards the back room.

We stopped by the bar one night when it was filled with twenty somethings and the 2 bartenders wouldn't acknowledge us or take our order as they served everyone around us. Very cliquey. It seems that if they dot know you, they don't want your business. We haven't been back since. We like to spend our money where they want it.

I've been for happy hour a time or two--I'm a fan of their $5 appetizers! As for their drink offerings, the only thing that's ever been on special when I've been there has been bud light, I think. It's a nice place to meet a few friends for an evening/after work drink, but I've never been there on a Friday night or a weekend...

Trip,

Re: food, I haven't explored the menu but their $6 happy hour food items are pretty good so far.

I LOVE the "steak strips" its a ridiculous steal at $6, quite a bit of super tender, very flavorful beef strips.

The Mazzeh wasn't bad either, there's a decent hummus and then also this spicy feta dip thing that's pretty delicious.

I agree with Anonymous #1. Lousy or nonexistant bar service. In 2011the bartenders ignore patrons - even loyal patrons that tip well. (Includes Alex- now gone.) Very disrespectful. I was even hit on purpose by a wide young man when I tried to get to my seat at the bar. The young bartender Adam took the his side. Bizzare. Gone to the dawgs. Like Anon#1, I am taking my hard earned dollars elsewhere! Faccis on Johns Hopkins Road has a nice bar. Loonies is fine! Twist & Turn Tavern on Rt 108is small but very nice. Great bar service with Harry.
