The Whole Foods in Columbia is aiming to open August 6, 2014, some Whole Foods employees were telling people yesterday.
The Columbia Association and Whole Foods had an event to show off plans for the fitness center that CA will run on the ground floor under Whole Foods. Mrs. HowChow stopped in, and the Whole Foods employees said they're aiming to open August 6 -- or some point in the first week of August.
The Whole Foods is going into the former Rouse Company building on the Columbia lakefront. It's right across Little Patuxent Parkway from the mall. Click here for all the posts about the Whole Foods in Columbia.
This isn't new, but Luke Lavoie wrote in March 2013 about how the parking and traffic will work at Whole Foods. The Sun article includes a drawing of the parking lot and a description of the plan to install a traffic light at the entrance.

It's funny. About 12 years ago, my wife and I wrote to Whole Foods, saying that they would be a great and much needed addition to Columbia, MD. We got an email back stating that our community didn't match their demographic profile.
So, now they are entering Columbia, after Trader Joe's, Wegmans, and Harris Teeter have set up shop. And David's is still here. Frankly, with their markups, I don't know how they will be competitive in this tougher market.
Same here. I imagine people who work or live nearby will frequent Whole Foods. But by now, those of us who have to drive to shop have found Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, Roots, MOM, David's. I am not as interested in Whole Foods as I would have been 10 or so years ago.
Someone please tell me what the plans are to handle what is certain to be a parking nightmare in downtown Columbia. I envision WF grocery carts scattered along Little Patuxent Parkway and in The Mall parking lots and garages.
