Maiwand, Yogi Castle & Bon Chon Opening News

They're all still just internet mentions, but it looks like we have rough dates for a few of the new places coming to Howard County.

Maiwand Kabob's new Columbia location will open on Wednesday, according to their Facebook page.  (H/t to Mike.)

Yogi Castle's new Columbia shop will open on Saturday, June 23, reports Agilmut who says an email arrived with the announcement.

And Bon Chon hopes to be frying chicken in Ellicott City by the first week of July, they're saying on their Facebook page as well.  (H/t to MaybeKathy.)

Let me know if you know more or if you see any of these folks open up.  Click on the prior post to see the comments about these dates.

I'll believe the Bon Chon news when I'm eating their tasty chicken.

Does Maiwand mean 6/20? If so I'm totally getting that for lunch.

I received the same email about Yogi Castle opening on the 23rd. I believe it is one of their auto-emails that goes out to birthday club members.

I'll back up CM. Stopped by the BoA to get some cash this morning and there are small Maiwand Grand Opening signs at both entrances to the shopping center and on 175 at Dobbin

We hit up Maiwand today. They had some minor first day jitters(couldn't figure out how to run a CC, didn't get rice with one meal), but the food was as good as other locations.

so happy that its right across the street!

Yogi Castle will have a 'soft opening' tonight 6-11pm, across the street from Wegmans and next to Jason's Deli.

FREE yogurt. Hot day? FROZEN YOGURT!!

You are invited.

I had my first taste of Bon Chon fried chicken this month at the Annandale location and was hooked - so crispy and delicious, even though I got take out and brought it home to Columbia! I am so happy to hear that I won't have to drive all the way to Virginia to get it next time!!!

Went to the Dobbin Maiwand today because it's so much closer than the other up in Harper's Farm.

Good news: the restaurant seating area is very nice and large. The food is just as good as the Harper's Farm location.

Bad news: they still have some "order fulfillment" issues, but more importantly, their prices seem to be about $3-$5 higher than both the Linthicum spot and Harper's Farm (i've been too both) for every entree. Doesn't hurt if it's 1 entree, but when you're feeding 4 people, the extra 15 min drive to Harper's Farm doesn't seem so bad. I guess they need to recoup for the higher rent?

I tried the new Maiwand location on Friday. The decor is much more modern and fancy looking than the other locations. The food is the same and I had some minor order fulfillment issues as well. I noticed the price mark-up, too. $12.99 for my typically $9.99 order comes to about a 30% increase. Yikes! I usually go to the Hanover location and I guess I'll continue to go there since the increase in price isn't worth the slightly shorter drive to pick up carry-out in a prettier room.

Yeah, the higher Maiwand prices were pretty noticible to me as well, as I was happy to have though it could be another cheap lunch option in the area. While I do understand that the food is very good and worth it, it's more than I care to spend at lunch. In addition, they're competing with several nearby Indian Buffets that charge the same amount for lunch as Maiwand charges here for it's daily curry special, which isn't overly generous.

'm really impressed with YogiCastle. The flavors are good, they ask for customer feedback, and they have the best and most numerous toppings. Plenty of candy, fruit, nuts, and even variations like yogurt chips along with the chocolate chips and nonpareils.

I originally wrote this comment and typed in YogiBerry as the name - I meant YogiCastle, but there are so many froyo places in Howard County it's getting hard to separate the names in my mind. YogiCastle is my current favorite though.
