Tropical Smoothie Cafe Opens In Columbia

From a comment yesterday, I heard about a new place that opened on Dobbin Road -- Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which looks like a chain that sells smoothies, wraps and salads.

From the Web site, it looks like the Columbia location may be in the back side of the shopping center with Walmart just south of Rte 175.  That's where one of the Five Guys opened last year.

Anyone try it?

Yep, I've been there several times. I really like it. Great food and smoothies. Yes, it is very close to five guys. More towards Performance Bicycles.

Next door to Baja Fresh, It's been mostly built for a number of months, but must have finally opened.

You/we knew they opened in March. See this post from March 21 for more details.

Just had a smoothie there last week. The prices are high ($5+ for a smoothie?!), but not if you consider that it is essentially a meal in and of itself. I got the Mango something or other, which was delicious. Good consistency, flavor, and granularity (not too crunchy or watery). Decor is cute and tropical themed. You order up front and they bring the food to your table (maybe not when it's busier, but they were doing so when I was there). My ONLY complaint is that the service was slow for a counter order (10 minutes when they were not that busy). I don't need it to be McFast, but felt it should have been faster for just a smoothie. It seemed that the food prep holds up the smoothie orders; perhaps a better triage of orders would speed things up.

Only been there once. Went with my boyfriend on a Monday afternoon, it was not very busy, but service was slow.
I got the peach silk smoothie and it was only OK, not very flavorful. My boyfriend got the Pomegranate and it was so sweet he didn't like it. This will most likely be our only visit there since they have one size (24oz!) so they cost upwards of $5. Also this is also a franchise and it feels like it right as you walk in the door.
For the money I would rather go to the smoothie stand in Columbia mall near Brookstone. I think they have superior flavor and texture, plus you pick what size/price you like.

I went the week it opened. I agree with the other posts, the prices are high. I got the Blimey Limey and it only tasted like orange (didn't taste any strawberries or lime). I might try it one more time.

I went to the cafe yesterday and was pleased with both the food and the service. The smoothie was great, and I liked the grilled wrap sandwich I had too. I'd definitely go again.
