Is Maiwand Kabob Expanding To Rte 175?

People at Maiwand Kabob were talking about plans to open a new location near Pier One in the shopping center at Rte 175 and Dobbin Road, reports Gussika on Twitter.

Anyone know more?  The Afghan restaurant is one of my favorites.  Spectacular bread, meats and vegetables with casual counter service.  If nothing else, go for the mantwo.

I feel like there are some empty spaces between the Pier One and the book store, but I can't picture what closed.  This is the same Columbia Crossings shopping center where they leased to Ichiban, Tutti Frutti and BGR The Burger Joint on the opposite side.

(Update: There are comments below that says Maiwand Kabob is expanding to a bigger location in Columbia Crossings. Maybe a bigger menu too.)

There used to be a BBQ grill store and a store selling fitness equipment between Pier 1 and the furniture store...are they still there?

Seems like that would be a huge space (too big) for a kabob joint like Maiwand. Plus that side of the shopping mall gets way less traffic. I would think with the 3 new food places on the other side, they would want to be over there with them as foot traffic and exposure would be greater there.

If it is going to move altogether, that would take away a reason to visit the Harper's Choice Village Center. While some of us talk about ways to create thematic "draws" as a way to revitalize Village Centers, Columbia Crossing seems to be quite successful these days at creating quite a nice little hub. Hmm...

I had heard the rummor that it was moving over there as well and on the side by Pier One. More going on on the other side right now with BGR and the yogurt and ichiban place. I think Maiwands following would make them succed on that side of the shopping center, it would be nice to see something work on that side that wasn't out of business in a year. It would also be nice to have a larger Maiwand, the other gets a bit cramped when full.

The BBQ place closed about 2 years ago I think.

It would be bad news if they opened up there. That is about 3 minutes from where I live, and I would be there all the time.

Off topic but welcome back! I missed you!

@Barbi -- Is the rumor that they're moving? Or just opening another location? I think they just renovated the Harper's Choice store a few years ago.

New location, not moving. I know the owners.

They are going to open next to the mattress store right by the Roomstore. It will definetely be a bigger location, and the Harper's Choice location will stay open! This is a bigger spot, and more then casual dining, with a bigger menu:)

At the moment, there's still a "For Lease" sign in the spot between the fitness equipment store and the mattress store, but it looked like there might be some work going on inside. I'm not sure how much needs to be done before the sign comes down.
