Did BGR The Burger Joint Soft Open Today?

BGR The Burger joint in Columbia will open on Tuesday, and they soft opened today -- according to the breaking news desk at the Sarah Says blog.  (Update: Here is Sarah's post.)

Curses!  I'm too far away.

I originally posted about a little confusion between the company's Web site that said the Columbia location was opening Tuesday and the company's Twitter feed that said it would open Wednesday.

Echoing a comment from PSeto, I was wondering if BGR "soft opened" today to make sure they're ready for tomorrow's official date.  Sarah stumbled on free food while checking on Tutti Frutti, which is next door in the Columbia Crossing shopping center with Target off Rte 175.

(Update: Early review on Yelp from Barefoot Blonde.)

Yes -and it was fabulous. Totally loved it and can't wait to go back. Highlights- the spices on the burger were great, thick bacon, fresh grilled onions upon request, right off the grill. Enjoyed the sweet potato fries too. Cool soda fountaint where you can add flavors to your soda. I think they said the soft opening is til 2:30 today, and the official opening is tomorrow.

I was wondering what BGR had over Fuddrucker's and Five Guys and all the myriad other burger places in the area, and then the previous commenter said "sweet potato fries."

Sold!

We randomly walked in on Saturday, thinking it was already open. We ate for free. Fries were not ready to be fried yet, but I did try to grilled asparagus which was awesome! The burgers are good. Husband had the sliders and thought they were a bit dry, I had the greek. The soda fountain is super cool and this place delivers which is really exciting! They told us they were opening on Tues.

@Snoopy....Aww jeez it was open on Saturday for free food? My wife and I walked by on our way to try out Tutti Fruiti (totally underwhelming and poor setup BTW) and saw BGR was open. I wanted to go in, but we had just eaten earlier at Eggspectation, so we decided to pass. Although my belly always can make room for free food. Based on the reviews here, I'll have to make it over there this week.

My wife and I went over today. We were the only ones in the place, but it was a bit early for dinner. We enjoyed what we had (the asparagus was really nice) but did think it was a bit pricey for burgers. The soda machine might need the ratios adjusted. Friendly service, meal came quickly. My veggie burger was a bit crumbly but my wife said her burger was "beefy" and nicely roasted.

very good burger. worth the slightly delayed opening. however $16, for the wellington, the green standard, and a coke is a bit much.

My son and I went last night. I was unimpressed for a $10.00 burger. The line was long and even longer at the 1 soda machine. I don't think we'll be back

Ten dollar burgers?! Fail.

If you want cheap burgers, go to Five Guys. If you want gourmet burgers, go to BGR. If the quality isn't what you expect, tell the manager - give them a chance to make it better!

For a better hamburger go to phoenix emporium in ellicott city

Went for lunch today. Burger was large, cooked to order (medium), tasty. Too much salt for my taste, and as others have noted - not cheap.

It was fine, but if I'm going to spend $$ for a burger, I'll continue to get it at Victoria's, and wash it down with a killer beer on tap.

There are several Yelp reviews in now, and it's a chorus of meh. Given all the other burger places within a traffic light of that junction, plus the fact that nearly every non-ethnic restaurant has a burger on the menu and will cook it to order, how do they think the "decent food-lousy service-outrageous price" business model will work?

I went to BGR today and it was fabulous. The service was great, the greek burger was just like a gyro and the sweet potato fries were crunchy and delicious. The open flame grill makes it taste like you cooked it in your back yard. They were very accomodating. And the soda machine is cool... 100 and some flavors they said. I give it a 95%.

We were not impressed. Both of our bun were dry and fell apart. Burger was too salty and wife's veggie burger was bland and also fell apart. $30 was steep for lunch. Asparagus was an unexpected treat, but we'll stick with Five Guys.

Not sure what the complaint about the price is....went in last thursday and got a burger with grilled onions, tomato, and lettuce for $6.99. Not bad, also they have a lunch special that includes fries and a drink for I think...$7.99. Compare that to McDonald's Biggie Value meal for Over $6 and I will take BGR any day.

My son ordered the grilled cheese, 2 grilled cheese sliders with fries and a drink for around $5. That seemed high for a kids meal, but worth it, he ate everything. Great manager, brought over a brownie for my son for free:)

The basic burger was great, if they can master that, I look forward to their other offerings. Nice char, cooked perfectly, will certainly go back soon. Looking forward to the sweet potato fries.

I stopped in last week for lunch and got a Ahi Tuna Burger and Onion Rings to go. By the time I got home-less than 5 minutes, the bun was soggy and falling apart. I took a few bites and tossed it. It was undercooked (I ordered medium) and didn't have much flavor to it. I also thought $12.99 was too steep a price for the tiny piece of tuna-it only filled half the bun. The onion rings would have been better if they were cooked a little longer.

Stopped by today and had a plain hamburger. The burger was fine, not great. I wasn't impressed by the atmosphere - dirty tables and loud music, and a smallish dining area, and the help was goofing off behind the counter. My friend had the lamb and said it was just ok, but the sweet potato fries were a hit. I honestly prefer the burgers I've had at Five Guys, and the toppings are free there.
