Target in Ellicott City To Add Produce?

The Target off Rte 103 in Ellicott City may be adding a produce section, according to a manager who was overheard by Danita of the From The Land of Pleasant Living blog. Anyone else heard this?

That would be very exciting - I hope it's true! I wonder if they will turn into a full "Super Target" with meat and all!!

I would expect the Target in Columbia to switch first. Columbia is the larger store and the EC store has direct competition with Safeway in the same shopping center.

Well I think it would be stupid - at least unless they expand. As Caederus says there is already a Safeway in that shopping center, while the Columbia one has not direct grocery competition. And the Target in EC is not a particularly large one. I am also not convinced that expanding in the EC location would be a very good idea, either.

Except for the fact that there's a huge vacant space next to the Long Gate Target (where Linens N Things used to be) and there's no empty space in Columbia Crossing.

Columbia has some issues with new grocery store chains coming in (see the failed attempt at a Columbia Wegman's) that EC doesn't seem to have. Yeah, it makes more sense to put a Super Target in Columbia but it might not be possible.

Also remember that Long Gate is the Shopping Center of the Triple Starbucks (one in Target, one in Safeway, and one in Barnes&Noble). Anything is possible! :/

I still have no information about Target. I just want to cut off any followups about the "failed" Wegmans. Unless MaybeKathy knows something new, Wegmans is currently building that store on Snowden. It is very delayed.

Sorry, "failed" was not the right word. I should have said "hopelessly delayed". At one point I was hearing a lot of talk from employees at other HoCo grocery stores that there were serious labor issues stemming from the fact that Wegman's is a strictly non-union shop and that was turning out to be problematic.
I haven't drive by the site recently so I didn't realize construction was progressing. That is very good news.
I wonder if that means the Columbia location of Baltimore Tea and Coffee Company is coming along too!

It is hopelessly delayed. I remember talking to my former neighbor, who was a Wegmans regional manager. It was 2007, and he said the store couldn't open until 2009. That seemed like a lifetime. Now, I think it's 2011 at least because the Wegmans Web site still has no date.

Just wanted to pass along that I stopped into the Target on 198 near 295 (which I think is still AA CO there) and there were signs on the doors that fresh groceries will be arriving in April.

There was a big banner outside saying "Open during Construction" but I didn't see any real construction going on inside. That store has always had more rows of frozen/cold food than the other local Targets, and I don't know if they're actually expanding or just adding produce to a section that already exists.

I know someone that works at Target EC and they said that they are taking over Linens N Things space. Construction has just started as I've seen a huge hole in the wall connecting Target and Linens. They will be adding produce some time during the summer

One other thing in response to prior posts...the Target in EC blows away the one in Columbia as far as sales go. I think it is one of the best revenue generators for the company as well.

I wouldn't worry about Safeway being in the same shopping center when it comes to competition as Safeway's produce is abysmal as is everything else in that supermarket chain

Building permits have been pulled for the EC Target Expansion. Here is some info I found listed below. There is a permit also pulled in February 2010 for $1.4 million worth of construction. Does anyone know if they are turning this into a Super Target??? Hope so because the Super Target in Florida is awesome!

The Target on 198 near 295 opened with there produce section a few months ago... It's really not much to like rows of bad looking produce and a refegerated section with eggs milk etc. Not a full grocies worth

An employee told me that the space was going to be used for corporate offices? I was kind of hoping that it would turn into a Super Target.

We were at the Target in EC today and they now have signs on the door saying they will be adding produce in October.

There are now construction materials in the parking lot outside the target...Expansion is a foregone conclusion.. Hopefully its a super target! I can't imagine wasting such prime retail space on offices.
