Link: Fatburger On Technology & MSG

Fatburger in Elkridge gets a write-up on Technology & MSG, and Alex finds the food doesn't match up to the burgers and fries at Five Guys in Columbia or Laurel.  He also mentions onion rings at "Second Chance" -- which I take to mean Second Chance Saloon, a place that where I still want to try the Old Bay wings.

I have to agree with Alex on Fatburger, although my burger eating has dropped enormously over the past few years.  I haven't had an urge for a second lunch at Fatburger since my January 2009 visit.  I'd try Five Guys, or I'd hold out for Victoria Gastropub or my own burgers made with Laurel Meat Market's ground chuck.

HowChow,
I was last at Fatburger in April 09. It was the last (and first ) time for me as well!

We used to plat trivia weekly at Second Chance Saloon and I always wanted to like the place because it was a Columbia landmark and run by nice people but it was hard. The food there is completely average and the service isn't awesome. I've never been back except to play trivia.

Funny, I find the burgers at Fatburger to be far superior to Five Guys. They're always juicy and the amount of toppings balances very well with the 1/3 pound burger. I also find it lots easier to hit the Fatburger than the Five Guys because I don't have to deal with the mall.

Jen, You do know there is also a Five Guys in Columbia that is NOT at the mall. I do prefer either of the two Five Guys in Columbia to Fatburger, but the one is the mall is my least favorite Five Guys I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot! I'm not sure if it's because they rush the cooking process, the quality of the employees, or something else, but the burgers there always feel like they are missing something. Although, perhaps for the same reason, they are the quickest Five Guys I've ever been too.

As for Fatburger, I went opening week and it was crazy. I waited over 30 minutes to be served. I went back a few months later a few more times when it died down and the taste still wasn't as good as Five Guys. They are definitely superior to other fast food chains, and the larger selection of items that Five Guys is nice, but if I want a good burger, it's Five Guys for me.

I just drove past the other Five Guys yesterday. It is off Dobbin Road in the shopping center with the Walmart.

I thought Fatburger was terrible. Just awful burgers.

Second chance was a nice little bar, but the wings were just okay. The wings at Klobys are way better.

I love 2nd Chance - especially the back patio in the warm weather, but overall it's one of my favorite neighborhood spots. I've always found the wings great and cheap for happy hour - even better if you ask for them extra crispy.

I haven't been to Kloby's yet, though, so when we do go in a few weeks I'll definitely try the wings there.

Growing up, I often went to the original Fat Burger in LA when I was in high school. I was really looking forward to the HoCo one unitl I tried it. I even went back a second and third time before I admitted to myself how bad it was. Nothing like the original - which had, well fat burgers.

I've been to Fatburger once about a year ago and have no plans to go back. Awful burger and hot dog as well. I didn't think you could mess up a hot dog, but apparently you can. Even before I tasted the food I was turned off by the unfriendly service.

I went to FBurger the other day for the first time. I went with an open mind but unfortunately was sadly disappointed. The burger was sub-par when compared with Five Guys. The bun over-powered the small and tasteless burger. Don't think I am willing to give them another try! Sorry but in today's world you have but one chance to make a good impression, even at a burger joint.
