New Pollo Feliz, Closed Mama Lucia? Comments On Nichi BK's Move, T-Bonz's Burger, RG's Po Boy

Pollo Feliz & Taqueria coming to Ellicott City
The restaurant wheel keeps turning with places opening and closing, so there is always more to learn about local food.

Coming soon:  Look for Pollo Feliz & Taqueria that seems to be opening next to Tere's Latin Market in Ellicott City.  They're expanding into the former Quizno's, and it looks like the taqueria inside Tere's will turn into a full-scale restaurant.

Closing down: Marylynn and others asked about Mama Lucia that used to be on the Elkridge/Columbia line near Trader Joe's.  They saw it had closed.  Does anyone know why?  Or if they're re-opening anywhere nearby?

As always, the comments on HowChow offer great advice and information.  Peter, P90Noir and others made suggestions about bourbons and cocktail recipes.  Jack, Rich and others reported on the new Ernesto's in Ellicott City -- a Mexican spot that we haven't tried yet.

Bon Chon's fried chicken. What about sliders?
And there is more to learn and share:

I'm in love with the new Annapolis Junction Bon Fresco. I'm convinced that their bread alone can make any sandwich stellar.

The bulgoki sliders are ok. I think their marinade is a little too sweet, but it's a good amount. If you get them I don't think I would have room for chicken unless you're sharing.

The major difference between the 2 Bon Fresco's is the hours of operation. The Columbia one offers lunch and dinner, The Annapolis Junction branch serves breakfast and lunch. Otherwise, exactly the same menu and same decor. No apparent difference in taste either. My office mate really likes the soups. I really like the fresh ciabatta bread and the mixed vegetables. The picante turkey sandwich is ... amazing. A true classic.

I don't know what breakfast is like. I don't remember what's on the menu.

For those who haven't eaten at the Columbia one in a while, they no longer offer chips or a side dish "free" with the sandwiches. That's now extra. And of course, it's extra at the Annapolis Junction branch as well.

Mamma Lucia probably closed because it was an average Italian restaurant in a tucked away location.

Late last week outside site work began at the Highland Inn. Lots of activity this week. Maybe they will have a parking lot in place soon.

Is Bon Fresco , new location , visible from Guilford Rd ?

We liked the bulgogi sliders when we tried them! It was a generous portion--not much room for chicken after eating them. I think it was 3 sliders, but not positive about that.

The new Bon Fresco is not visible from Guilford Road. It's catty-corned from the 7-11 at the intersection of Guilford and Dorsey Run Road. From Guilford Road, you turn onto Dorsey Run road heading North and turn left into the first driveway. Bon Fresco is in that building.

(It maybe Brick Bridge road, but I think it's Dorsey Run. Where there's a traffic light.)

I liked Mama Lucia and am sorry to see it closed. They had a great Caesar salad and was a go-to place for our family.

The Wegman's salad/nacho counter are seasonal. It's a salad counter during spring/summer. And a "Mexican" counter during fall/winter. They fry their own tortilla chips daily when they're in nacho mode. You can ask just for tortillas to take home and they'll pack some in a bag for you.

Had the chips and made a nacho platter to go from Wegmans today! Nice selection of meat toppings and traditional salsa, jalapenos...etc to add as well. Chips were tasty! I thought better than Chipotle and we all know Chipotle chips are addicting. But did get pricy as adding the toppings weighed the box down. Overall, nice new surprise at Wegmans.

Harris Teeter has excellent pretzel rolls and you can occasionally find them at Costco too.
