New Restaurants Are Coming (& Some Are Here); Tigi's Ethiopian, Highland, B&B, Shilla And More

Indian coming to Fulton
'Tis the season for new restaurants.  Tigi's Ethiopian has opened on Rte 40, reports Bella.  That's the first Ethiopian in the county as far as I know.

But it won't be the last new restaurant around here.

We have an entire list of places under construction, including the Highland Inn in Highland, Bean & Burgandy Cafe in Ellicott City, the unnamed Indian restaurant in Fulton, and the Shilla bakery and Ernesto's Fine Mexican on Rte 40.

Tigi's is on my "to do" list -- along with the chicken bulgogi that Kristi found at Lighthouse Tofu.

Anyone know more news?  Opening dates?  Menu plans?  I see a few Web sites that say "coming soon," but I don't know any more.

Does anyone know what's going on with the old Red Pearl space? Any indications as to what will take Red Pearl's place?

Does anyone know the status of Bon Fresco opening a spot in Annapolis Junction? Did it get delayed or cancelled or what?

Thanks for letting us know about Tigi's. We (3 of us) went for lunch today and enjoyed it. We had the beef tibbs, lamb tibbs, and a dish I hadn't had before - don't remember the name but it was a chickpea puree. We also had some very good meat samosas. All the food was good, I think the favorite was beef tibbs (or maybe the samosas). The chickpea puree I was neutral on at first, but as I ate more, it's mellow smoothness started to grow on me. Plus, the kids liked it - anything that gets vegetables into the kids is a winner.

The husband and wife who run the place are very nice. This is very much a start up operation with attention going to the food and little thought put into the atmosphere. The tables are small, the wall is lined with bags of tef, lentils and spices. Good news - the injera is made from tef! - the attention to food shows here. Soft drinks are served in a can, though the owner did produce glasses when requested (w/o ice). Small, beginning mistakes.

We will return.

Is there any new news on the opening of the Highland restaurant? The link is a little dated and it doesn't look like much has happened in the last year in terms of opening.

We were at the new Turf Valley shopping center and noticed a new restaurant, Grille 620, steak and seafood. Does anybody know any more on this, I can't find any further information.

The last news that I heard from Mr. Ko was that it's still happening. He's hesitant to give a projected opening date since it inevitably slips and folks get disappointed.

Highland Inn still not showing signs of being ready to open---parking lot has not been paved. But there is a lot of activity with plumbers trucks, well driller rigs, restaurant supply trucks, etc.

Tigi's is fantastic. Ate there over the weekend. Everything is home-made, the prices are ridiculous(ly cheap) and it's some of the best food I've had locally in 13 years of living in the area. I just asked the lady who runs the place to make whatever was good- she did and I will be back ASAP. Go, it's great!
