Boo! Boo! Candy Companies Are Bad Sports

Boo! Boo!
We hadn't even gotten kids back to school when candy companies started to stuff Halloween down out throats.

Don't get me wrong.  No one needs to push Halloween on me.  We're your neighbor who put a host of giant spiders crawling across their house.  We decorate.  We hand out good candy.  We love seeing our neighbors and everyone else who floods our street.  But we do all of that in October.

Last week, I saw Halloween displays at Giant and Wegmans.  Too early.  I know they're just trying to capture the folks who buy candy early, but they're sapping the fun from the season when they try to start up 10 weeks before the holiday.

I, too, noticed Halloweed candy in my local grocer. I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday barr none. But Ghosts and Goblins in AUGUST is outrageous. My only thought was "how long does that stuff sit there before someone buys it?"

The night we got back from a nearly month long summer vacation from Europe, I went to the grocery store for emergency stuff for breakfast. It felt like 4 am to my brain. I saw the candy and was like, "Wait... it's mid-August, right?" My brain was still on SUMMER holiday!

Later I got to thinking... why is it out this early? because it gets people thinking about Halloween. For some reason, Halloween in like an excuse to eat candy - lots of candy. Those who buy it early? Eat it. They "intend" to save it, but they don't. Then, they go back.

For me, after spending nearly 2 years on getting thinner and fitter, seeing this just makes me realize why we are so fat - we are bombarded with CRAP all the time.

But, it's not just the candy. It's out at all the stores too - all the decorations. By October it will be Christmas. Thanksgiving being lumped in with Halloween and mostly forgotten.

Ha! I only wish it were Halloween candy. The Shoprite in Glen Burnie has Christmas Barbie and other Christmas items on the floor.

The Costco here in Columbia is already on Christmas, too! It's really getting ridiculous how far ahead the various holidays get anticipated.
