We love it too, one of our favorite fast food places but one we do within reason (high calorie). We have family in Wisconsin and Ohio who are just now getting a Five Guys and they love it too! They have grown extremely fast and started here in Maryland!
1986: The first Five Guys location opens in Arlington, VA. 1986 - 2001: Five Guys opens five locations around the DC metro-area and perfected their business of making burgers… and starts to build a cult-like following. 2002: Five Guys decides DC metro-area residents shouldn't be the only ones to experience their burgers and start to franchise in Virginia and Maryland. 2003: Five Guys sells out of franchise territory within 18 months and starts to open the rest of the country for franchise rights. 2003 - Present: Five Guys expands to over 550 locations in over 35 states.
@ Anon - Thanks for the comment, but I don't see what you were responding to with "didn't start in MD."
Check the old posts about Five Guys, and you'll see they weren't the only thing to move from the 80s in NoVa to the present in Howard County. Ah, the old days.
HowChow, perusing their site it hit me that I don't believe that I have ever seen you get a read on the Olney Ale House. Next time you get a chance while on the outskirts of Howard County check ‘em out. The homemade molasses bread, beef stew and local and national craft beer taps make I well worth the trip.
