I love going out to Soft Stuff and Rita's, but I don't claim that either serves spectacular ice cream. They're fun summer nights because we sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. There was an ice cream store on Rte 40 that closed before I could visit. Is there a parlor in Columbia or Ellicott City that makes its own ice cream? What do you suggest?
There's one tucked in the Weis shopping center next to a decent sushi place off Marriottsville road north of the 70 in the Waverly Woods Village Center, although the website doesn't list it, oddly.

I haven't been in there though, but its open year-round so they must be doing something right.
Calling Soft Stuff anything less than spectacular ice cream is blasphemy.
ReplyDeleteNote that Soft Stuff doesn't open until March 23rd.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post! I'm sad there aren't more small places to get ice cream and chill :(
There's Arties on Rt 108 just west of 32 but before the old Rt 32. They serve Hershey ice cream and it's carryout. It's been there forever - things have been built up around it.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream shop on Rt 40 that closed (next to St Johns Lane in the same shopping center as Mars and Bank of America) was by far the best in the area for soft serve. In my not so humble opinion. (Sorry Anonymous, but I feel like Soft Stuff is more nostalgia than quality ice cream.) The ice cream shop in Waverly Woods Village has sadly also closed. The Rita invasion is here. Head for the hills. ;)
ReplyDeleteYep, anonymous is right, the Waverly Woods ice cream place is most definitely closed, drove by there a few minutes ago, completely vacant inside.
ReplyDeleteD'oh.
Cindy's in Elkridge has great soft serve and other frozen treats. It is a walk-up ice cream stand that only opens for the summer months. It is officially open for the season, so you should definitely check it out. It is right next to the Superfresh on Route 1 and Montgomery Rd: 6330 Washington Boulevard
