Coming Soon: Huge Lotte In Catonsville

Just a reminder that Lotte is building a new, huge supermarket on Rte 40 in Catonsville.

I love the sign on the current Ellicott City Lotte, which I understand will stay open even after its big cousin opens down the road.  I love that they translated "grocery store" into seven languages.  That's the kind of place where I want to shop.

Anyone know the timeline?  The Sun reported in February that it would open in the summer.  I haven't driven past in a long time.  Is it already open?  Anyone know how the new store will be different?  I assume a larger store means a larger selection.

  3. Gabrielle -- It replaces a Toys R' Us. This is the part of Rte 40 near the car dealers. I forget the exact cross street.

Rob -- LOL. At first, I thought you were some kind of Russian spam. Thanks.

  4. According to Lotte's website, the new location is 6600 Baltimore National Pike. That's just west of the intersection with N. Rolling Rd, which means it's more or less across the road from the Catonsville H-Mart.

I love the H-Mart there, but good grief, I hate that parking lot. (the one in Wheaton is even worse, but I *need* those vacuum-packed peeled chestnuts for my continued sanity)

  5. I went past the ex-Toys-R-Us yesterday, and if that's the place, it doesn't look anywhere near done.

Anyone know the status of the supermarket addition to the EC Walmart?

  6. Yes, this is opening in the location of the recently-closed Toys'R'Us, in the same plaza as Panera Bread, across from the plaza with LA Fitness (former Bally's) and Sports Authority. It's a good half mile from H Mart I would say. The intersection is Route 40 and Nuwood Dr.

I have to agree with little audrey. I pass by there every day and it doesn't look close to completed.

The last "translation" is actually more of a transliteration. If you asked an Urdu speaker to read it to you, he/she would say "store grocery".

  7. This was several weeks ago but there were notices posted on the old Toysrus building stating that "Asbestos remediation" was going to occur in the building. I would expect that could cause a significant delay.

  8. little audrey, the EC Walmart will celebrate its "grand opening" either next Thursday or Friday, 10/25 or 10/26. The supermarket will be in full operation then.

  9. Thanks, TRM. I'll have to sneak down there next week to see if there's a soft opening.
