Link: Cupcake Taste-Off On Kitchen Scribble

Cupcakes go head-to-head on the Kitchen Scribble blog where kat and friends tasted the established Oh What A Cake! against the new Linda's Bakery.  Bottom line: They liked them both Columbia bakeries, but they had definite opinions about cake, frosting and decorations.

  1. Not sure where to put this comment, so this will have to do (since it's kind-of bakery related). A new bake-stand has appeared at Frank's Produce (Waterloo Road, behind the Costco). The very nice Croatian lady running the stand said it's she's there on Saturdays. Her tomato-onion torts are amazing, and her assortment of breads and desserts are great. She's definitely worth a stop. Bring cash as she doesn't take cards. BTW, it looks like the last of the local tomatoes will soon be gone at Franks but they've got plenty of nice apples.

  2. Thanks for the link! I would love to expand the taste-off to include other bakeries, but I fear I lack the stamina. Maybe someday.

  3. Thanks baltassoc: as of Oct 6, still plenty of apples, lots of different types, at Frank's. Also tried the bake-stand, it was tough to choose, everything looked great. Had a piece of apple cake and a piece of plum cake with crumbs on top, they were delicious! We're already planning the next trip back.

  4. The nice Croatian lady is Renata of Renata's Tasty Bites. In addition to selling at Frank's she also has a catering business. She makes amazing cookies and gorgeous cakes!
