Red Pearl - And Its Salt-&-Pepper Lobster - On The Kojo Nnamdi Show And In The Washingtonian

The Kojo Nnamdi Show did an hour on local Chinese restaurants, and Washingtonian critic Todd Kliman raved about Red Pearl in Columbia.

Click on the show page and click "Listen" to hear the discussion, which highlights Chinese restaurants and how to order special items.  Kliman posted a recent chat where he talks about Red Pearl -- talking up an off-menu "salt-and-pepper" lobster dish, but disappointed by the weekend dim sum.  (Listen around the 35-minute point of the Kojo show for more on the lobster.)

Kliman said that he has a longer piece coming in the March edition.  Or check out my raves about the Red Pearl dim sum, which has always been top-notch to me.

Thanks for Lisa for the heads-up.

  1. Interesting, I actually was very happy with the Dim Sum at Red Pearl. Definitely beats Asian Court in my book. We've been twice now. We've had no wait, good service (great except for a separately ordered dish that never came), and really good dim sum dishes. Their Chinese Broccoli is the best I've had.

  2. I've been to Red Pearl several times now and it only gets better each time. Great food, great service, lovely view - it's almost too good to be true! Go, go, go, before Washington discovers it and it becomes as crowded as Sushi Sono.

  3. We checked out Red Pearl's Dim Sum last Saturday because of your recommendation! I think there might have been some Chinese New Years celebrations going on? They had this whole Dragon Drum Dance going on and there was a large crowd gathered to watch (This was before they started seating people at noon). Is that standard?
Anyway, we really liked it! You were definitely right! Although, I will say that the boy was much better at ordering stuff than I was...

  4. we went late on sunday & we're disappointed that we got there too late for dim sum...but not too late for won tons! They were delicious, and we can't wait to go back to try others.

  5. The one bad thing about Red Pearl's dimsum is they don't use hot carts for the Roast Pork or the Roast Duck. So it cools down and is sort of cold/congealed. Otherwise the dumplings are great and steaming hot!!
