Mrs. HowChow's House Wine House Wine

We're wine people, but not really liquor people -- which makes it hard to be real wine people because we can't handle our liquor.

But we know what we like, and Mrs. HowChow discovered her new house wine House Wine at i.m. Wine. To say that again: That's her new favorite wine, a Washington State variety called House Wine with two giant words and little house on the label.

Mrs. HowChow went back for more Monday at i.m. Wine, the liquor store in Maple Lawn. She likes dry red wines, smooth dry red wines. She likes House Wine for the taste and for the cute label. We went through several bottles at my birthday party, and she bought more to serve some medical students when they come visit. Mrs. HowChow was so effusive that another customer picked up a bottle based on her recommendation. It's the casual kind of wine that it easy to serve to people.

i.m. Wine is a casual store where it is easy to get some advice. I'm a fan of the Perfect Pour's beer wall, and they're both places where you can good advice on everything from $10 picnic wine to expensive bottles to age for a special day.

(Update: House Wine comes from The Magnificent Wine Company in Mattawa, Washington.)

  1. Rick at I.M. Wine has been nothing but great with the selection of beers and if he doesn’t have what you are looking for he will try to get it and not roll you over a barrel. (Beer and Wine pun intended)

  2. Love, love, LOVE I.M. Wine! It's my main wine/beer/liquor store. I live in Montgomery County, but close enough to it that it's only a 10-15 minute drive. Great selection, great prices, and Rick is a friend.

  3. You'd never guess from the outside, but the liquor store in the Long Reach village center is amazing, and very well stocked. The owner is the nicest guy in the world. They do beer and/or wine tastings most Friday evenings, and their prices are great.

  4. If you still have the bottle, can you tell us the name of the winery that makes the wine? Always looking for a cheap red table wine to have around the house. Thanks!

  6. I think the people who work there are pretentious jerks. Their selection is great, but I'll stick with Perfect Pour.

  7. I've had a problem with the prices marked on the shelves at IM Wine not matching the price the bottles actually ring up at. The second time it happened, I brought my receipt back the next day to show them that they charged me $16 when the wine was clearly marked at $13. They grudgingly refunded the difference, but were unapologetic and clearly displeased at my cheapness. Never been back.
