Fulton's Ananda Is One Of Washington's Top 20 Restaurants, Says The Washingtonian

The new Indian restaurant Ananda made Washingtonian Magazine's list of the Top 20 restaurants -- putting Fulton on a list dominated by downtown spots.

This is a great restaurant, and we have loved it since our first visit.  But I have been surprised and pleased to see such enthusiastic raves from professionals like the Sun's Richard Gorelick and Washingtonian's Todd Kliman.

I teased a bit when Kliman's first post seemed to gratuitously describe my part of Howard County as "the middle of nowhere."  But maybe I should have pulled back even on that now that he has show such love for a local place.

  1. We dined there on Wednesday. Ordinary appetizer platter, whole fish ok,Boti Kebab Masala would have been outstanding if it weren't served lukewarm. Goa Fish ok, not great.
Service was rushed and rather impersonal. Maybe just a bad night'

  2. I know they have been getting a lot of attention but for my money Royal Taj is still the top Indian restaurant in our area.

  3. I went for the first time earlier this month, and I can't wait to go back. I've been dreaming of my avocado salad appetizer ever since!

  4. All four in our party were disappointed in Ananda. Restaurant is beautiful and service is top-notch, but all of our dishes were pretty bland (and I don't like particularly spicy food). Royal Taj is still #1 in my book!

  5. How does anyone find this place? There is no signage to speak of, and when I finally homed in on this unassuming grey building on the opposite side of Fulton from all the other restaurants I thought it was a bank. When I tried the door, I discovered they did not open until 5 PM.

  6. My wife and I went to the Happy Hour at Ananda twice. The second time we went there, we sat across from the fireplace in the lounge area. It was a very cozy spot. They have some $ 5 cocktails. We enjoyed the crab and the lamb appetizers.

  7. We've dined at Ananda on six separate occasions since it opened in July. We have enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance every time. If you have not been, try the Crab Malabar, the toasted corn and avocado salad, and the cardamom ice cream. You will not be disappointed.
