Can anyone confirm that H Mart is replacing the Shoppers Food Warehouse on Rte 40 in Ellicott City?
Marcia left a comment earlier this week saying that her cleaners said the neighboring store would become an Asian market. Marcia was talking about the Shoppers at Ridge Road, just east of Rte 29. I just called the store's number from the Shoppers' web site. No one answered, but I don't know what that means.
I'm a huge fan of both Lotte and H Mart, and the new Lotte in Catonsville is really terrific. I assume a new H Mart would also open with bells and whistles like a food court and prepared foods. That Ridge Road location basically looks across Rte 40 at the Ellicott City Lotte.
I went to Lotte two days ago, Shoppers was already gone. A big sign of " Store Closed" was hanging on the store wall.
ReplyDeleteI was At Lotte two days ago. shoppers was already closed. A big sign of "Store Closed" was hanging on the store wall.
ReplyDeleteThe rumors are true! Shoppers closed prior to their announced 10/28 date. Can't wait to have H-Mart even closer! Great store, great prices, amazing selections.
ReplyDeleteOh dang. I kinda liked that Shoppers too......
ReplyDeleteCan anyone actually answer Howchow's question? Is HMart moving into that space?
ReplyDeleteI hope HMart is staying in Catonsville. I've heard those rumors about a new Asian market coming into E.C. at the Shoppers location for years.
ReplyDeleteI was at HMart over the weekend and it was incredibly busy. I think it would be silly to move, maybe they're just opening another location like Lotte did - one in E.C., one in Catonsville? Catonsville is a great location for people who live Baltimore!
Fingers crossed HMart stays put. :T
I can only hope the old Shoppers turns into a Mitsuwa Japanese grocery store. I went to one in San Diego and wow.
ReplyDeleteYes, Hmart is coming in. The old Hmart in Catonsville will stay
ReplyDeleteWhat heard in korean community gossip that H-mart is adding another location, their second location will be at shoppers on ridge road ellicott city. The one in catonsville is not closing, H-mart wants a bigger slice of the demand of asian markets in howard county. Lotte in Ellicott city is being forced out of space, because apparently a chinese company bought the whole shopping center and wants to convert the Lotte to a all chinese supermarket.
ReplyDeleteI was just at the shopping center tonight (18 Dec 2014); there's a sign that shows it's an H Mart.
ReplyDeleteI was driving by today and was surprised to see that they are open! I went inside and they had free samples everywhere. There was when a guy there cutting sushi tuna right from the actual fish. I haven't frequented hmart in the past, but I plan to visit this one again soon. An employee told me that they opened yesterday.
