Mission BBQ Has Opened In Columbia

Mission BBQ has opened in Columbia. The Mission BBQ replaced a Chicken Out in the shopping center with Target just off Rte 175 and Dobbin Road.

  1. As a random aside- does anyone know what happened to Chicken Out? It almost looked like there were smoke/fire marks on the exterior of the building near their sign?

  2. I definitely recommend trying their brisket along with their pulled pork. I've tried their stuff out of Towson and they do good stuff. Their Mac & Cheese side is a solid side.

    Their sauces are average.

I recommend them for catering too, we get some of our office events catered by them and they're not that expensive for something different than Pizza or a Chick Fil A Platter

  3. Doug, I may be wrong, but based on their web site, it looks like they closed all of the stores except for one in Rockville.

  4. I don't know about all the locations, but I just ate at the Glen Burnie one today. It was fantastic!

  5. 2 items of note: The long line is to order food and not for waiting on a table. Since there are multiple cashiers at the counter, the line moves pretty fast. (Folks already know that it is open so I imagine the lines will get quite long during peak weekend hours.

There are 2 ways to cook BBQ: 1) To put the sauce on the meat before you cook it or 2) Don't' put any sauce on the meat before cooking and give the customer a choice of sauces. Mission is in the second camp and has 7 sauces - 3 sweet and 1 vinegar-based.

  6. I was really really impressed with these guys after carrying out an order on their grand opening day. The entourage of staff appeared to be very much on top of their game given the mass of customers lined up out the door. I sampled a little bit of everything and was blown away by the flavors, smokiness, and juiciness of their meats, sides, and sauces. At worst, the cornbread and mac n cheese were good but not great. Very helpful and friendly staff and a great cause. If they can keep quality consistent then there's really no reason to go to RG's, Famous Daves, or Klobys for pure BBQ.
