The new facade at |
But the new food should flow as early as this week.
Above is the beautiful wooden facade that has gone up at the new Petit Louis coming to the Columbia waterfront. The brilliant idea is that they have two doors. One at the end that looks like it will be a bar or takeout area and then the main doors facing the lake. I hope the takeout option opens the place to people who may not start with an expensive dinner, and I hope it keeps their cash register ringing all day.
Trip Klaus heard that the Columbia Petit Louis should open in January. Clayton posted another better photo so that you can see the Petit Louis facade. Their liquor license application describe patio dining, so good weather should only make that area more lively and fun. Let us know if you know or see more. As we plan for the year, there are a bunch of restaurants on their way:
- White Oak Tavern on Rte 40 says they're aiming to open the second week of January because they couldn't get an inspector to visit before the holidays. Their Facebook page has photos, including photos of a trip to the Wagon Wheel Ranch. where you can buy locally-raised meat by the box.
- Highland Inn on Rte 216 still has "Opening Soon" on its Web site, and the Polo Club in Fulton will offer Indian in a really pretty looking building off Johns Hopkins Road.
- Tere's Latin Market was opening a restaurant in the adjoining space on Rte 40. I found a Yelp post by Gerald E. that says the market's taqueria now shares a kitchen with a restaurant, so that may already be open. But it'll be new to me when I go in 2014.
- Pisco in Elkridge now has signs in the window saying that Peruvian food and ceviche will arrive by Spring 2014. This is the folks who run Facci, and I think Peruvian food could be spectacularly successful.
- Two new restaurants are going into the Snowden River shopping center with Pars Market and Azul 17. An Indian place call Chutney will replace the shuttered Akbar, and there are signs for a Japanese buffet in the former home of Nichi Bei Kei.
- Nichi Bei Kei has a Web site saying that they're relocating, and there has been talk about them moving to Sterrett Road near the mall.
- (Updated: Lisa reminded me in the comments that Buffalo Wild Wings is coming to the Rte 175 shopping center with Target.)
What are you looking to try in 2014? I still need to try the Rumor Mill on Main Street in Ellicott City. I also have some dishes to try at Yel Nal House on Rte 40. This could be a big year for Korean.
Please comment below if you know the timing on any of the restaurants above -- or if you know other new places that will come in 2014.
Also...Just saw the Buffalo Wild Wings will be opening in the former Don Pable site off of 175.
ReplyDeleteMy husband saw cases of wine being carried into i Highland Inn on Monday so it looks like they are stocking to open soon.
ReplyDeletePardon my slightly off topic question. Until the Columbia Whole Foods opens, where is the closest decent-sized Whole Foods?
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if there is anything going into the closed Chicken Out in Columbia?
ReplyDelete@Marcia -- I think the Silver Spring store is the closest if you need to take a special trip. But I tend to go to Whole Foods when other errands bring me nearby. The stores in Rockville and Annapolis are both large and amazing.
ReplyDeleteAlso a Whole Foods in Harbor East and one near Woodberry Kitchen not sure what neighborhood that is considered.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the new restaurant by Teres Latin Market, called Felicitas (Feliz?) something.
ReplyDeleteIt's a mix of Mexican and Peruvian dishes. The Mexican is the same tasty food you get in Teres, but in a real restaurant (and bar).
I've been sampling the Peruvian dishes because I've never had Peruvian food before. The Tacu Tacu is like fried rice but has a chicken cutlet (yum) on it and is spiced differently than Chinese fried rice, though it still has some soy sauce. It's very good though and a large portion is served. I had a dish (can't remember the name) that is fettucine with Pesto, except the spices are different. It was very good, very filling, and very large.
It can be loud, especially when someone plays the giant size ipod / juke box.
I'm looking forward to going back and trying more Peruvian dishes as having some of their delicious tacos.
Amongst the Montgomery County Whole Foods I have found the sausage maker at the Kentlands/ Gaithersburg store to be far superior to the others. For @HowChows favorite chicken sausages, the chicken chorizo at Kentlands is better than locally made pork versions around the area. For lamb lovers their merguez is also a stand out. You would think the recipes are the same from store to store, but I have found the Rockville shop is not as good.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when the Buffalo Wild Wings is scheduled to open? I drove past there on a trip to Target a couple weeks ago and it looked like they were starting renovations. And as someone else asked, I'm curious what will happen to the Chicken Out location in that same shopping center. Has anyone heard any news on that?
ReplyDeleteSad just found out that Marc Dixon has left Bistro Blanc. Friend had lunch there said he was going to Bond Street Social in Baltimore. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteThe restaurant next to Tere's is called Pollo Feliz and Taqueria. It has some, but not all of the items from Tere's, plus some new Peruvian dishes. They don't exactly share the same kitchen - I know this because I ordered chicharron tacos and the server had to go out the front door to order the tacos and then again to get them.
ReplyDeleteI went on Christmas Eve and they had a decent crowd for 3 in the afternoon.
They also have set up the place for some night life, with specials advertised into the wee hours of the morning. There is also a very modern jukebox offering up Latin and English pop hits.
Had heard a rumor that Lakeside Deli in Columbia was closing. It happened a few days befor Christmas, but with that news came some more that they were moving somewhere new. Any word on where to? Their simple space and good lunch and breakfast foods were an awesome place off the beaten path.
ReplyDelete@Sherriham -- They're moving to Broken Land and Little Patuxent. I will put up a separate post.
ReplyDeleteAm I allowed to be excited about IHOP opening up at East Columbia Marketplace next to Advance Auto Parts?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was waiting sitting in line waiting for gas at Costco, I noticed a new sign up called Jersey Mike's Subs, right next to Fatburger. I had never heard of this place, but after a little investigation, I see that this is actually a national chain.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this has already been stated, but I'm pretty sure Xitomate is open in Turf Valley.
