Deb messaged me on Facebook to say that On the Spot mobile detailing had mentioned the Starbucks when they emailed to say the business would be moving. They said there would be demolition and development in the commercial area near Rte 32 and Eden Brook Drive.
I think On the Spot is in a commercial area at the end of Old Columbia Road. That's a dead end so I'm surprised, but I'm not expert on placing Starbucks. I guess the area is easy to reach from Rte 32, especially if you can order your coffee without getting out of your car. This is the quote from On the Spot's email:
"For those of you who are local and interested, they are going to be putting a Drive-Thru Starbucks in the strip center they are developing at Old Columbia Rd."Is this the right area shown in the Google "street view" below?

I found this, but no mention of MD openings.

Columbia does already have a drive-through Starbucks on Dobbin Road (in the same shopping center with the Walmart).
ReplyDeleteThat would be the right spot. It makes no sense to add yet another Starbucks 2 blocks the one in Harris Teeter and very close to the one next to Three Brothers but I guess I will not get my wish of having a place like Mimi's Kabob, Garbanzo or Cosi open there.
ReplyDeleteNormally, that spot is low traffic, but a Starbucks would probably do well. There are office spaces across the street, and many offices down Old Columbia Road. The gas station formerly in that spot closed as did the former Bombay Peacock Grill. I'm guessing that was due to the small amount of traffic.
ReplyDeleteI work within a mile of that spot. The spot would be ideal because unlike the Dobbin Starbucks drive-thru there aren't tons of other places around where you have to fight to get there and get out. Like has been said, both Bombay Peakcock Grill (undone more by sinking quality of food then location) and a gas station there have closed down. If people find it, it will be pretty easy in and out for them. The question will be will enough people find it to keep it open.
ReplyDeleteTo the person who commented that there is a Starbucks in Harris Teeter already. That makes no difference since within the Long Gate Shopping Center, there are Starbucks in Safeway, Barnes & Nobles, and Target for years now.
ReplyDeleteMy office (Chesapeake Family Wellness Center) is across the street. They've torn down the existing structure but we haven't heard much else besides Starbucks committing:
