The new restaurant owners in Maple Lawn are folks who appear to own restaurants already in DC and Silver Spring.
At least, that's the talk among business owners and the landlord about what will replace the Venegas Prime Filet. Apparently, it's a family that already runs Nellie's in DC and Cubano's in Silver Spring. (No Bridge, if you'd heard that rumor.)
Does anyone know the new name or menu? Anyone know the plan? Or know Nellie's or Cubano's? There is talk about them opening next week, which seems crazy fast. But that sounds great.
Tough to know much based on this. Nellies is a sports bar in DC, while Cubano's is a cuban restaurant that was good when it opened but has gone downhill. Hard to figure out what the concept would be for the Venega's spot given how different Nellies and Cubano's are.
ReplyDeleteI just spoke to people at Nellie's and they said they are not affiliated with this new restaurant.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Robert Gatsby? I thought he was the one that was opening a new restaurant in the location...
ReplyDeleteDoes Howchow just throw this stuff against the wall to see what sticks or do you check out your info before printing them. Gatsby? Nellie? Cubano?? Wow
ReplyDeleteOh, no. Quite real. Gatsby was there. Appears not to have negotiated a lease. Restaurants are hard. Things don't a,ways work out.
ReplyDeleteAnd the landlord's folks are saying just what I printed. The Mendes appear to be holding off on press. But the landlord's folks talked about it.
That's the fun of a blog. I can write about what people are saying. I
Susan does seem to know her stuff. The landlord's folks might be wrong on Nellie's. But then the Mendez family does seem to own Cubano's and part of Nellie's. See the WPost article below. It seems like a weird fact for the landlord to get wring.

Susan,I stand corrected and understand. Sorry for the throw it against the wall comment. It gatsby was there, sounds like he blew another opportunity if you google the guys business career. 22 gigs in 8 years usually escorted out after insulting his partners. Sounds like an ego out of control and a positive step for the wonderful world in Maple Lawn. We deserve better. Smart Landlords to see thru the hype. Again, wont question you again
ReplyDeleteI have been to Cubano's several times over the years, as I work in that area and the food and service are amazing. Happy to hear they may be coming to HoCo.
