Congratulations Rte 40 and St. Johns Plaza -- You're getting a Chipotle.
I don't write a lot here about chains, but I can happily line up for a an enormous burrito at Chipotle. When my neighborhood got a McDonalds, person after person kept saying "I wish it was a Chipotle."
Now Anonymous has left a comment linking to an H&Retail site showing a Chipotle to be built on Rte 40 in the parking lot of the Mars supermarket.
I'm glad that corner will finally be cleaned up and re-developed, but count me in the minority as someone who has never been a big fan of Chipotle. I'll stick with Q'Doba across St. John's lane.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of new Rt 40 restaurants, further west on the eastbound side, in the small strip where Baskin Robbins and I think Domino's sits, there is a huge 'Coming Soon' sign for a place called "Bean and Burgundy". Based on the signage it looks like a high end sandwich and salad place, but not positive about that. Any other locals know more?
Ah...disregard my comments about Bean and Burgundy...I see that it was already covered in a Jan 22nd HowChow post.
ReplyDeleteI'll also be sticking with Q'Doba...assuming I can get parking there.
ReplyDeleteI dislike qdoba AND chipotle.. what we need is a california tortilla up in here!!!
ReplyDeletep.s. since we are talking about this particular area and chains, the new jimmy johns opened about 2 weeks ago just across from the spot chipotle will be. greatest subs around!
I enjoy the occasional Chipotle or Qdoba run. I was kind of meh on California Tortilla when I tried it. I'm not too big on hot sauces, so if that's the primary part of the appeal, then it's not for me. It wouldn't be bad to have one in the area for variety, though.

There's plenty of fast food in Ellicott City ... now we just need a decent supermarket without having to drive all the way to Columbia.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Chipotle is finally building there (it was first rumored almost a year ago). Q'Doba is OK but not nearly as good as Chipotle, as evidenced by the long lines in the Columbia Chipotle but at the nearby Q'Doba, it only lines up when Chipotle's overflow crowd doesn't want to wait in line at Chipotle.
ReplyDeleteAs for plenty of restaurants in EC... if you're not looking for something expensive but don't want hamburgers or Asian food, you're mostly out of luck. So Chipotle will be a welcome addition.
Will be interesting to see a Qdoba and Chipotle virtually next to each other. On another note, I wish Jimmy Johns would bring the alfalfa sprouts back to their Beach Club sandwich! I haven't eaten once since...
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I don't want another fast food at an already busy, difficult to navigate corner. No thought was put into the zoning decision to allow it.
ReplyDeleteYayyyy!!!
ReplyDeleteFinally, the long drive to grab a burrito or a bowl will end for me. Can't wait to go in there.
Any word on when are they set for an opening of this location?
Look into why Mission Barbecue was denied the opportunity to put one of their restaurants in that same location. Hmmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteYUM! Love chipotle. You can't go wrong, fresh, so many options and fast service. I also love baja fresh. Both preferred to Qdoba and definitely over Moe's.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to this? The lot is still as dilapidated as ever. :(
ReplyDeleteSeriously wish this would get done. We need a chipolte and chick fil a on 40 (west of 29).
ReplyDeleteI dont know if you see comments on years old posts, but they have cleared the building from the property. Could Chipolte finally be coming?! They are still listed on the realty website.
