Apparently, a new Korean bakery has a sign on Rte 40, reports Amelia. She said she saw a sign for Shilla bakery between Jason's Wine and Kim Bob Nara. That puts it on the southbound side west of Rte 29.
Separately, new Indian and sushi are coming to Fulton. The Maple Lawn developers have signed a lease for a sushi restaurant across from the Harris Teeter, the developers said at last night's neighborhood meeting. They also said work will start in the next month or so on the new Indian place from the folks who own the Ambassador. That'll be on Maple Lawn Boulevard south of Johns Hopkins Road.
So how many bakeries can we support on that end of Rt. 40?
ReplyDeleteI wondered when Shilla would move northward - they've already covered the major Korean population centers in the DC area.
ReplyDeleteHoping for some decent sushi at Maple Lawn because it's a long drive from Burtonsville to Sushi Sono!
Whatever happened to the new restaurant from the owners of the Milton Inn that was supposed to open in Howard County?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Maple Lawn. I have to tell you that the gas station in Maple Lawn is awesome. I go there for fried chicken, lo mien, and they always have a good little salad bar that usually has a few Korean style choices. The shrimp salad is delicious. Yesterday I went there and they had a Bulgogi sub for a lunch special and it was delicious. They don't serve anything fancy or out of the ordinary, but I've never been disappointed by what they serve. Just thought I would share.
ReplyDeleteAny idea of when the Indian and Sushi places in Maple Lawn will be opening up?
ReplyDeleteIf the sushi place is going into the sole open storefront in the little strip mall by Harris Teeter (the one with Hair Cuttery), it won't be any time soon. I drove by on my last HT shopping trip and didn't see any sign of a build-out.
ReplyDeleteJust a little update - build-out for the new sushi place by the Harris Teeter has started.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me where there are "real" bakeries around Rt. 40. There are no "real" donut places (Dunkin Donuts does NOT count).
ReplyDelete@Anon -- Bakeries near Rte 40? Look in the right column of the blog for a long list of bakeries. I don't know a donut place, but the Rte 40 places include Bon Appetit and La Boulangerie (cakes, cookies, Korean, French), Kolache Kreations (kolache), and Cooks n' Cakes (cupcakes). I'd also recommend a side drip into/near Main Street for Old Mill Bakery Cafe and The Breadery. The Breadery is in Oella, but it does spectacular sweets, breads, and savory items like flat breads with cheese and vegetables.
