Korean barbecue at Shin Chon Garden |
Then the rumors. People gave some ideas and some jokes about what is happening at the former Rocky Run. Best rumor so far: Another brew-pub kind of place. Anyone know when the Bon Chon Korean fried chicken will open? Ryan and I were emailing. Their Facebook page said on March 20 that it was coming soon.
Wegmans looking for employees |
Then some planning: Call Wegmans if you want a part-time job. Kristi found them advertising in the mall. Mark your calendar for HocoBlogs' next blog party at Second Chance Saloon on April 11. These are aimed at bloggers and readers, and they're free and fun.
Then some blog links. Food Nomad tried to the crepes at the Crepe Cafe next to Cafe de Paris. Blogger FN didn't love them. Adam grabbed tacos at R&R Taqueria. He posted on the Option Pitch and Waffle Crisp blog that the trip was inspired by the Food Network show, even though tacos are normally his thing.
And a sample of the other helpful comments:
- Brandon reports that CNN listed 100 great sports bars in America and listed Looney's in Fulton and River Hill Sports Grill in Clarksville. CNN mislabeled Looney's as Baltimore, but what are you going to do?
- Rob, Katherine and others talked up the soup at Bon Fresco. And it turns out their Easter special is a traditional -- maybe Italian -- item.
- Wawa reports that the new ice cream place in downtown Ellicott City is from the folks who own Pepperjack's in Laurel. Apparently, they also have a hot dog cart outside the Owen Brown village center.
- Moontoad critiques Red Pearl for not figuring how to respond to a relay call. Honestly, it's odd to get moderated calls from the deaf. But people can figure it out, and Moontoad says other folks like Royal Pizza send delivery easily.
- J, S and others seconded my praise for Tandoor Grill in Tribeco.
- Anyone know where to find Spanish chorizo -- reddish with paprika? Vicki saw my post about chorizo at Family Market, but I don't know if the "Argentine" chorizo there is like Spanish.
- Barbi talked up the idea of getting fried chicken and checking out the new Family Market in Columbia.
- JP loves everything at Linda's Bakery in Columbia. He seconds the napoleans and pushes the mini eclairs as well.
- MH3761 loves the frosting at Cooks N' Cakes, but thinks the cupcakes themselves are overbaked. She (?) would love to hear if they make changes because she is rooting for the Ellicott City bakery.
- And people keep adding to the cheesesteak list. I need to check these out.
The cupcakes at Cooks and Cakes are still overbaked. They wrote to me and said they made adjustments to their ovens, but they're still so dry. But, their icing is really fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI thought the CNN article was referring to Looney's in Canton...
ReplyDelete@Jody, they probably were but they used the Maple Lawn street address tagged with Baltimore as the city. Probably they just went to the website for the street address, typed the first one they found (Maple Lawn) then put Baltimore because that's what they meant. Just thought it was funny that in 101 sports bars in the country the two listed from Maryland were within a few miles.
ReplyDeleteOn Cafe de Paris. I've never tried their crepes, so no comment on that. We went to the restaurant a few times when it first opened and I was not impressed. I had high hopes because it seemed so popular when it was in Laurel. We have been there twice recently for wine dinners, the food has definitely improved. I'd say give the restaurant (not crepe side, that definitely looks like an afterthought) a try before writing the whole place off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to my relatively new blog. I would imagine that dinner is better than the crepes but I'm not sure if I'll make it back there. I've just moved back to the area and there are so many other places higher up on the list to try. Maybe one day, I'll give it another try.
ReplyDeleteRe: Authentic Menus. Thats a added benefit of marrying a Asian is that we get those menus handed to us at most places that offer them.
ReplyDeleteAnd the bread with the egg is Italian, my grandmother used to make it and so did my Mom and now I do. It's a special Easter treat. This is the closest that I've found to what I use. But of course, I have a secret incgredient :P
Easter Bread
HowChow shhhh! We love River Hill Sports Grill, and one of the best parts is that it's never too crowded! Service remained fairly prompt even through the games of the final four! Don't make it too popular like Iron Bridge; traffic from it on 108 after about 6:30 had become the bane of my existence!
ReplyDeleteRocky Run is going to be a Columbia Ale House (Oliver Breweries).
