The Bloom on Rte 216 in Laurel will become a Food Lion, according to a story in Washington Post.
Apparently, the corporate parent of both chains will abandon the Bloom chain and convert most of them to Food Lions. Several Bloom stores in Virginia are being closed, but the Laurel store isn't on the closing list linked from the Post.
Why go to Bloom (Food Lion), when the Harris Teeter is so close?
ReplyDeleteI live right near there and it USED to be a Food Lion... now it's Bloom. Well in any case the Harris Teeter down the street is way better with better prices and selection. The only good part about a store right there is it's walkable if you forget milk or something!
ReplyDeleteI went there a couple times but I was never impressed. As the previous 2 said, why go there when HT is close and better?
ReplyDeleteI loved that store, but as a concept. Never loved it enough to shop there beyond my first exploration - http://hometowncolumbia.wordpress.com/2006/10/25/bloom-a-different-kind-of-everything/
ReplyDeleteMy experiences there have been terrible. The staff have been rude rude rude, which I have NEVER experienced at HT.
ReplyDeleteI live walking distance from that Bloom and hated it. It was just a food line with horrible prepared foods. The day HT opened I never went in there again
ReplyDeleteWow. I never go to the HT because I find they prices to be astronomical compared to the Bloom. HT also has their roots in the south and it seems they carry different brands than what most stores in the area offer. That means I can never find what I actually want at the HT. I'm not thrilled with the Bloom, but I choose it every time over the HT.
ReplyDeleteI always shop at HT because the service there is phenomenal. My mom went to the Service counter to return a gallon of spoiled milk, without realizing that my dad had purchased it at Giant. The manager explained that it was from Giant, but told her to exchange it at HT anyway. My mom told her that that was silly, but the manager took the milk, put it behind the counter, and insisted that she take a new one.
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a company that I want to do business with.
The culture at Food Lion turned Bloom, now back to Food Lion has lacked a focus on the customer, and been downright rude for nearly ten years. They came in and put nice new decor up and called it Bloom, and briefly things improved, before quickly reverting to the old way.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandfather used to say 'You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.' This Lion smells an awful lot like a Pig.
So glad Harris Teeter opened. As others have noted they get 'customer service'. Food Lion could drop their prices dramatically, and I'd still pay more for the service at HT.
