Link: Kabob Connection On Sarah Says

There is a new kabob places in the Columbia Mall, and Kabob Connection is worth a visit, says Sarah on the Sarah Says blog.  She talked up the chicken kabob, fresh bread and the gyro turning on a spit.  Strobist had tweeted me about the same place -- noting the fun of a locally-owned joint in the food court.  I need to check this out.

  1. We had a chance to visit there not long ago. It seemed to be doing good business--perhaps because they've moved the cooking out front where people can watch. I got the beef kofta kabob sandwich and thought the portion was very generous. My wife wasn't eating that night, but we could easily have split one order between us. The flavor was good, and any slowness in service was directly attributable to the fresh, made-to-order nature of the food.

    I used to gravitate toward Great Wraps anyway when we ate at the Mall, but now it will be hard to eat anywhere else in the food court. Next time, I'd like to try their "jai-ro." (The cashier was wearing a button that gave the correct pronunciation, but I still heard workers calling out the orders wrong--a pet peeve of mine.)

  4. I just finished the second half of my gyro I ordered there for lunch a couple hours ago. I agree with the other "Trevor" that it is very good. It is a much, much better gyro than Great Wraps. It tastes like the people making it actually put some care into the ingredients, and didn't just utilize the same old industrial-grade corn-syrup, processed, who-knows-what-it-is ingredients.

  5. We were there yesterday during lunch and while the food was very good (we had the spicy chicken and the regular chicken plate) the service was EXTREMELY slow. It was so slow that one person left without his order since it was taking too long. I don't know if they were training new employees but if they can't handle the lunch rush at the mall, they won't last long even if their food is good.

  6. Most kabob places are slow b/c they make the food to order. Grilling chicken and making fresh bread takes longer than dumping fries into hot grease and sitting them under a heat lamp.

    I usually call ahead and never have a problem.

  7. I have ordered the falafel platter twice. Yum! Check out the coriander hummus too. And when they ask you if you want "hot sauce" say yes. They aren't talking about Texas Pete's. It is delicious. The wait is definitely longer than the average food court establishment, but well worth it.

  8. Tried this place the other day and was very impressed. Great chicken kabob, lamb and the gyro was great as well. You can't expect mall food wait times as this is much better than typical mall fare and made fresh to order.
