Jason's Deli Opening in Columbia? A Texas Chain With A College Park Location Coming To McGaw

Jason's Deli will fill the Columbia spot vacated a while ago by the Atlanta Bread Company, according to some comments on a prior post.

I don't know the place, but HowICook says that its a big menu with a salad bar.  Apparently, it's a Texas chain with a location in College Park.  This is the spot on McGaw Road across from the new Wegmans

  1. That sounds good. My gf works in College Park, and she loves the place... the best things they make are large portions of very good vegetables, like the southwest baked potato. Moving to Columbia means I'd be able to try something than scant leftovers!

  2. I delurked on Wordbones's blog for the first time to comment on his post awhile back about Jason's coming to Columbia. True that it's not a "real" deli, per se, but it will be a great addition to the family-friendly and great-for-groups market. They do have a fabulous salad bar in addition to 8+ soups per day, tons of sandwiches (famous for muffalettas), ginormous baked potatoes, etc.

Yes, it's a chain but they've really amped up organic offerings and focus on freshness. And they have free soft serve! And Dr. Pepper on tap!

  3. Hip hip hooray! Jason's deli, although a chain, is delicious and has a lot of great offerings and an amazing salad bar! As an added bonus - they offer sandwiched made on delicious Udi's gluten-free bread and a full gluten-free menu! I just noticed today that a new location opened recently in Timonium.

  5. I LOVE Jason's Deli and have been wishing for one closer than the College Park location. The big selling point for me is that it focuses on all-natural foods so their meats are nitrate-free, the salad bar is organic, and they have real-sugar sodas on tap at the soda fountain. Hubby loves that they have a free soft-serve machine.

  6. They have the best salad bar, and their flatbread crackers (pumpkin cheddar, mmmm)are amazing. Also love their chip selection as side items!

  7. I went to the one in Timonium this weekend and asked about the Columbia location. I was told they are opening one off McGaw Rd and that it should be open in September! Also, I was pleased to see that the Timonium location was just as delicious as the Texas stores I've visited before.

  8. When I was waiting for my takeout dinner from Bon Fresco last night (new fave: Capri. YUM.), I looked up and realized the gentleman behind me had on a Jason's Deli shirt. I couldn't resist striking up a conversation. Turned out to be the Local Sales Manager, as well as an Operations guy who will work in the Columbia restaurant. They said the plan is to open on Monday, September 19th!!

We had a little discussion about how BF sells similar things to Jason's, although it's clearly much smaller. As much as I love the large and varied menu at Jason's, I had to giggle a bit at the thought of comparing a chain to Mr. Koh's homemade breads and delicious sandwiches!

I do think some of the business lunch crowd might find themselves at Jason's since, presumably, there will be much more room for groups. Should be interesting. But lemme say this: once Wegmans opens across the street, I can see my fam having weekly restaurant outings to both the Weggies Market Cafe and to Jason's. That corner will be THE hot spot! :-)

And we'll still save room for the Capri, too, of course!
