BGR The Burger Joint is opening in Columbia -- in the shopping center with Target, Ichiban Cafe and Rack Room Shoes.
(Update: The opening is aimed for early spring, says a tweet by BGRBurgerJoint.
BGR is the kind of burger place that touts a simple menu of burgers, fries and shakes, but it opens in Dupont Circle and writes about its "story" on its Web site. They talk up the quality, and I'm a fan of quality, mid-priced burgers. I just got burned by my anticipation for Fatburger two years ago, so I'll wait to taste and see where I come out among the mixed Yelp reviews.
Thanks to Zevonista for the tip. If you need a burger before BGR opens, check out Victoria Gastropub and Five Guys, which seems like the closest existing concept to BGR.
Don't we have enough burger joints? Let's see Five Guys, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Fat Burger and Red Robin within 5 minutes of each other. We need some really good foo foo food (like Volt or something similar) or a really good NY deli or maybe even a hot dog place.
ReplyDelete@cdarl -- Zevonista and I were joking that we should create a map to show all the burger places within a few blocks of Snowden and Rte 175.
ReplyDeleteOn the deli front, have you been to Charter or New York Deli? I like the corned beef at NY Deli on Snowden, and Morty says Charter often has good lox and knishes.
Tried Charter Deli for the first time today after reading your comment here. Corned beef was pretty good, nice and lean like I prefer! I am embarrassed to say I have been within 1/4 mi of this deli (dr & vet) a zillion times and had no clue it was there. I MUST get out more! Or open my eyes when I am out!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Charter Deli yet. Keep meaning to, but I don't get over that way much (I live closer to Costco). I just wish one was closer instead of another burger joint. I still think a hot dog place would be fun!!!

ReplyDeletethe only thing about all the burger joints you mentioned is that they stink! BGR is the home of the best burger I have ever had in my 27 years. I used to live in Dupont and currently frequent the one in Bethesda since I moved back to Columbia. The Wellington is all that I could ever ask for in a meal. This place rules and I am SO excited for its opening.
@JMOvechkin -- I'd love a BGR preview post from you. Take a cell phone photo of your next burger in Bethesda. Then email me three paragraphs of why you love it. They say they're coming in early spring. I want to be inspired!
ReplyDeleteBGR's at Dupoint Circle is different than other burger joints I've frequented. What makes them unique is that the spices and special ingredients of their specialty burgers are actually cooked into the patties. Made to order, the burgers ooze with fresh juices that are essentially a marinade for the beef.
ReplyDeleteDuring my first visit, I had a Southwestern burger, cooked with chipotle and topped with black bean salsa. Their onion rings large, thick rings in a crisp batter. I definitely plan to make extended lunch breaks just to try the rest of the menu.
I can't wait for BGR to open up in Columbia. Fatburger fell short of originality and Five Guys relies too much on their extra helpings of fries. BGR's is a close second to Ray's Hell Burgers in Virginia and tromps the over-hyped Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill
The burger joint in columbia is very terrible i ordered a cuban well and got it full of blood!! all the tables were dirty i literally had to clean the table myself!! Was very disappointed!!!!
