Bad News: You Live In Howard County!

HowChow has good news, bad news.

The good news is that Laura Vozzella posted a reader's compliment about Kloby's Smokehouse on Johns Hopkins Road.  The bad news is that she thinks it is bad news that the tasty barbeque is in Howard County.

Laura, Laura, Laura. . . The Dining at Large blog used to be a friend of the suburbs!  All your readers are welcome on Rte 29!  Come for the BBQ; stay for a giant yard, public schools, and parking lot cafes.

(Thanks to Brandon for the tip.  Notice in the post that the Laurel post office address does confuse the out-of-towners.  More proof that isn't Laurel.  Two words: Fulton annexation.)

  1. I'd put our parking lot cafes up against any other. HoCo has the world's best "dining by the asphalt" experience.

  2. If this keeps up I'm *never* going to be able to get a table at Kloby's again! :-D

  3. Poor Laurel, who thought it would be a good idea to pull it apart like a BBQ pork shoulder and toss the pieces into four different counties?

Darn it, I am really, really craving pulled pork right now.

  4. What's so bad about mentioning a good restaurant in Laurel? It's halfway between DC and Baltimore; a good stopping or meeting place when traveling between the two Metros. It's also home to Pasta Plus; better than *any* Italian restaurant in Baltimore's Little Italy.

  5. I tried the beef ribs at Kloby's last weekend and they were really good, as were the fries. My daughter really enjoyed the tri-tip as well which had good flavor without overdosing on smoke.

The only downside was our waiter was really spacey.

It'd been a while since I was there, but I'll definitely be back soon.

Perhaps I should try Red Hot & Blue to see how it compares.

  6. Change it from Laurel to Fulton? Never. Kloby's is in Upper Scaggsville.

  7. I was always told that the area by APL is really scaggsville, but JHU did some lobbying to gerrymander that area into Laurel, because they didn't want a Scaggsville address because they didn't like the way it sounded.

  8. I have to wonder how the Scaggs family feels about all this.
