Bad News For The Columbia Wegmans

The Frederick Wegmans now has a 2011 date on the company's "future stores" Web page.  Columbia still says "to be determined."  We have been lapped by Frederick.

    I emailed Wegmans about the Columbia store a couple of days ago. They responded yesterday saying they hope to open in 2012 and indicated the Columbia location will require a lot more construction than the other stores they're opening. Whether that's because of the size of the store or for some other reason, they didn't say. I was so disappointed. This transplanted Western New Yorker needs her Wegmans!

    Actually, I just used the "contact us" page under Customer Service on their website.

    And here's the response I received:

    Dear Alison: We received your email and we thank you for taking the time to contact us.


    Currently, we hope to open the Columbia store some time in 2012. Unfortunately there is much more work involved at this location than at others and the construction period will be significantly longer.
