Venegas Prime Filet got a review in the Sun today, but they might not have wanted this kind of attention.
The reviewer liked the steaks, but didn't love much else. Provided some serious criticism about sauces, side dishes, service, and so much else. I still haven't eaten at the new Fulton restaurant, and I still want to give it a try. Other folks were talking it up as recently as last night. (Comment, DK? Pick a Blogger nickname!)
That is an awful review. I'll stick with the ribeye at Woodberry Kitchen. (even if I do have to drive farther for it)
ReplyDeleteIts sad people take a single persons word for it and go with the flow. For K8teebug, you might want to try the restaurant out for yourself instead of letting other people make your mind up for you...
ReplyDeleteI agree, not only that but I have been there before. This review is old, the restaurant has really improved! The steaks are to die for, and the sides are simply delicious! Not to mention the wide variety of wine!

ReplyDeleteThe wife and I went back to Venegas on Thursday night. Quick summary: still very good food and decor, now very good service.
ReplyDeleteThe calamari continues to be excellent. Venegas was out of our favorite steak cut (rib-eye) but suggested the wagyu as a substitute. Since the wagyu is huge (30oz), we asked to split one. They made an effort to cook the wagyu to meet each of our preferences and offered to cut it for us. It worked out fine -- we were both happy with our respective pieces. We got various sides, which were all tasty, and the gelato, which my wife quite enjoyed.
Unlike the reviewer above, we didn't even consider getting any sauces for the steak. Any steak that needs a sauce is a steak that isn't worth eating. Venegas steak indeed stood alone.
The decor was both tasteful and unique. The wait staff were attentive, fast, and gracefully accommodated some of our more unusual requests. The serving sizes were typically huge -- plenty for both of us to split, usually with leftovers, for everything but the calamari.
The one caveat to Venegas remains the price. But we will be back anyway.
We went this wknd. The filet was so tender. The mushrooms were perfect. No sauces necessary. The wine markup is a bit shocking, but I guess it is to be expected. It's a great special occasion place.
