Krispy Kreme appears to have closed its Columbia donut store. I have received two emails, plus some confirmation in the comments below. I assume they're talking about the store near Target and the also-closed Expo Design Center.
This has become a week of "opening" and "closing" posts. I need to eat somewhere new this weekend to break the trend. If you are new to HowChow, click for the starting page for my "What I Learned" guide to food in Howard County.

In addition to the recession, it's just not a donut-friendly environment anymore. I assume they'll still have the Krispy Kremes at the Royal Farms. I don't eat many donuts, and the few I get are from Ms. Desserts and Fractured Prune anyway. I remember the one in Glen Burnie. The only donuts worth eating at Krispy Kreme are the fresh and hot ones (same for Dunkin' Donuts - which is why there's never anything worth eating at Dunkin' Donuts). The one kid that worked there the last time I went - wow, it was last year - was usually pretty clueless about the best way to eat a Krispy Kreme. That's also why I prefer Fractured Prune: they ONLY give you hot donuts.
ReplyDeleteRead this from Elizabeth Large's blog, Blue Sea Grill is closing in Baltimore. I know someone who worked at Babalu Grill and confirmed that it is now closed.

ReplyDelete@Slideshell: Fractured Prune still has a location in Towson at 6308 York Road. Unless it closed very recently, they are still open.
Isn't there still a Fractured Prune in the Halethorpe/Lansdowne area in the same complex as Home Depot?

There is also a Fractured Prune on Harford Road in Parkville.
ReplyDeleteIn Montgomery county, there's a Fractured Prune at Cloverly Shopping Center (home of Greek Taverna, across the street from the big safeway, on New Hampshire Ave, south of 198.)

ReplyDeleteI was very dissapointed in hearing this so I sent a e-mail to corporate on 9/1/09 and responded on 9/2/09 and told me that like any responsible business Krispy Kreme is constantly looking for ways to enhance, innovate and improve-from finding more effective ways to operate, to maximizing the quality of the experience for every one of there customers.
ReplyDeleteOur company has analyzed our store system with an objective of improving utilization of existing production capacity, optimizing our route structures and eliminating certain factory stores that do not fit the current prototype and business model. Unfortunately this store was one of the stores that did not fit these requirements.
While these changes are challenging, we deem them necessary.
Again, they apologized for the inconvenience this may have caused. And looked forward to serving you again in the future.
I belive they will still have them at the local grocery stores where they were previously, I know that Harris Teeter's has them on a table by there milk area over in King's Contrivence in Columbia. And I believe that the Royal Farms still has them. I hope this is informative to everyone. Kathy in Elkridge

ReplyDeleteI still get shivers when I drive by even though it's SECU now. They could have at least taken down the trademark green Krispy Kreme overhangs.
