I wrote that Howard County could only hope for Peruvian roasted chicken, but the comment says there are signs saying that Pollo Fuego (Peruvian) is coming in around the corner from My Organic Market, where My Girlfriend's Kitchen used to be. This is the Columbia East shopping center at Rte 175 and U.S. 1.
(Update: Pollo Fuego opened in July 2009. Please post your comments here.)
Please post a comment here if you see it open or know when it will. In the last weekend of April 2009, I drove past and saw construction inside that looks like a long counter and tables.
Emkenton also says that the closed El Patio restaurant on U.S. 1 just south of Rte 175 now says Las Vegas Restaurant #2. (Update: Frank Hecker comments below that this appears to be a sister restaurant to a Salvadoran/Mexican takeout place off Security Boulevard. I confirmed that when I visited and tried the basic tacos.)

(Thanks to emkenton, Frank and to everyone who leaves comments.)
I got a little nervous about a blog post based on my intel, so I did another drive-by today to confirm the details. The sign clearly says Coming Soon: Pollo Fuego, Charcoal Chicken Peruvian Style. (Sorry that my crazy memory added the "El" at the beginning!)
ReplyDeleteRe Las Vegas #2, there's a Las Vegas carryout place next to the Security Blvd location of Five Guys; it's a Salvadoran/Mexican place if I recall correctly. This may be a second outpost.
ReplyDeleteI see Avanti (Washington Blvd at Guilford Rd) in Jessup has been replaced by Cazabe. Heard they have Spanish food, but don't know if they are open yet.
ReplyDeleteNeal -- Thanks. I have never heard of Cazabe. Do you know any more details?
ReplyDeleteI've been circling Pollo Fuego for about two weeks now. There were people in there preparing last week but could not understand when they opened... i''d give it another two weeks
ReplyDeleteWas just there on 6/26. Everything looked ready inside, but there was an orange "REJECTED" tag on their window. Wasn't close enough to read the fine print. Looks like they will be delayed opening.
ReplyDeleteThey're open! I ate there tonight, and had a quarter chicken with fries and plantains. Pretty tasty; I've never been to the sister store on Security Blvd, but it tasted very similar to Peruvian chicken I had at a place in Glen Burnie (downtown near the community college).
ReplyDeleteThe grand opening is this Sunday. They have signs in the parking lot advertising "buy one chicken, get one half off (or free, I don't remember)", but the manager was telling people that isn't being honored until Sunday.
I ate there and it was good. The prices were reasonable, but for it to be healthy I would prefer a boiled potato option instead of the fries or yuka option.Seems like it has potential to do well.Hours of operation are decent too.
