Expect two new restaurants in open in Maple Lawn in the next few weeks -- first The Grille and then the Polo Club.
That's according to the Maple Lawn developer who discussed the restaurants at the community's meeting last night. None of the plans are final -- which makes sense because opening a restaurant seems like complex work.
The Grille is working on some final arrangements, the developer said. This is the restaurant replacing the Venegas Prime Filet just off Rte 216. He said they had an inspection last Thursday and are probably aiming for a soft opening some time next week.
The Polo Club is a few more weeks behind. (Update: In 2014, it appears that the Indian restaurant will be called Ananda.) The talk was about an opening in late December or early January. This is an Indian place being built from scratch up near Johns Hopkins Road by the folks behind the Ambassador. I still don't see a Web site for them.

The Polo Club looks interesting, the Grill not so, it will be the 4th eatery on that corner , seems that who ever opens there never gets it. A Cracker Barrel Restaurant will be ideal in this new community.
A Waffle House . That is the ticket for that corner.
I was there last night, they have a soft opening before the official grand opening. Let me tell you , these owners are no pro's,the place was a complete mess. The food was nothing special, yes different than what is offered in the area. Looks like this will be next fiasco on that corner.
Visited the new Cracker Barrel by BWI and it was a zoo. I am scratching my head as to why Cracker Barrel has not opened in Columbia. They should have gone in the Lowes - BestBuy shopping center the name of which escapes me. Or they should have opened at 175 and Rt 1. I believe a Cracker Barrel in our area would be one of their most succuesful in the country.
Am I missing something? People want a Cracker Barrel in Columbia? Seriously? Don't we have enough chain restaurants already? I'd rather eat at a mediocre locally owned place than another predictable, boring chain restaurant. I like comfort food as much as the next person but drive to BWI if you want that food. We do NOT need more crappy chains here. (Sorry for the rant but I just don't get this attitude at all.)
Good grief! What is wrong with you a Cracker Barrel. Is that food even edible? What needs to go there is something like a Shannons in Ellicott City or the Ten Oaks Tavern in Glenlg. A moderately priced family restaurant with good quality not plastic chain food.
I went to the Grille at Maple Lawn last Saturday. It was a challenge to get good service. Our wine arrived 30 mins after we ordered a bottle. The server was unable to open the bottle, I sent back an over cooked appetizer and after complaining too many times about slow or no service - they offered complimentary dinner - but it was over-cooked and dry. I did not eat it - even free of charge. The absolute worst thing is that they have decided to put brown wrapping paper on top of the white tablecloths. It's like going to a garage. It's tacky and sub standard - something I'd expect at a crab shack not a fine dining establishment. The menu is decent, but it felt like I had to settle on something rater then my mouth watering for something written on the menu. I'm afraid it won't make it without some changes and real strong experienced Management. As far as Cracker Barrel. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I'm a resident of Maple Lawn - we are not interested in Cracker Barrel. We need an upscale hot spot for the more mature crowd tan Looney's draws. Capital Grille, Ruth Chris, Morton's, Maggianos, Ocean Aire, McCormick & Schmicks
The paper bag on the tables are a complete turn off, please take them away. The owner that I met did not impress me at all, he might own two other dining facilities but this corner is completely out of his league. They kept the decor from the prior occupant and the bad traits.I rather drive a few miles and came home with a smile and satisfied.
I went there for lunch last week. My chicken Caesar was pretty good. But make sure to check the check! We were overcharged - apparently it was the dinner prices not the lunch ones. I was hoping the brown bag thing was only for lunchtime.
Dinner for 4 at the Grille last night - food OK but service was terrible! Finally settled on a menu item and were told that all of the "kabobs" section of the menu were discontinued - this is like 1/3 of the menu... Avoid this place.
We have been several times. The food is just ok and at times terrible. I hope they get their act together or this one will bite the dust too!
The Grill seems to be picking up. Went there for a nice Friday night happy hour this weekend. Great service and happy hour specials. The restaurant was pretty busy for an early evening.
